Diamond is 7-0 at No. 6 singles after his straight sets win today

Penmen win fourth straight behind Fernandes and van Biezens

HOOKSETT, N.H. (March 30, 2019) – Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 4 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, picked up its fourth-straight win with a 6-1 decision over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at SNHU Tennis Courts at Penmen Stadium this afternoon.

Postgrad Tiago Fernandes and juniors Willem and Bas van Biezen spearheaded Southern New Hampshire to the win as double-winners on the afternoon. The van Biezens, ranked No. 2 in the Oracle/ITA East Region doubles rankings, led a sweep of the doubles matches for the Penmen with their win at No. 1. Willem followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against Stonehill junior Samuel Miller, while Bas ended freshman Vincent Huynh's ten match singles winning streak with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 singles.

Fernandes and freshman Emmanuel Vacalares, the seventh-ranked doubles tandem in the region, playing at No. 3, picked up SNHU's first doubles win with their 6-1 victory. Fernandes followed that up with a 6-0, 6-2 win over sophomore Trent Newman at No. 1 singles, while Vacalares topped sophomore Russell White 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Freshman Fernando Torres rounded out the Penmen's double-winner with victories at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Junior Aaron Diamond earned Stonehill's point with a straight-sets win, defeating SNHU sophomore Noah Sullivan 7-5, 6-1 to remain unbeaten (7-0) at No. 6 singles this season.

Stonehill (9-4, 1-1 NE10) is back on the courts on Wednesday, when it visits regionally-ranked Merrimack College at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Friday, April 5, to host rival Bentley University for its Purple & White Match at 3:30 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (7-3, 3-0 NE10) hosts Saint Michael's College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
