Men's Tennis Sweeps Assumption in NE10 Opener, 7-0

EASTON, Mass. (March 26, 2019) – Stonehill College opened Northeast-10 Conference play on a winning note with a 7-0 victory over Assumption College in NE10 men's tennis action inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Freshman Vincent Huynh was among four double-winners for Stonehill, capped by his tenth-straight singles victory with his 6-1, 6-1 decision over Assumption junior Jameson Keppeler at No. 4 singles that clinched the match victory. Huynh also combined with freshman Luke Mendoza to complete the Skyhawks sweep of the three doubles matches with their 6-4 win at No. 3.

Junior Samuel Miller and sophomores Trent Newman and Russell White rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill. Newman and Miller teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Skyhawks and then Newman edged Assumption sophomore Max Francis 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Miller followed up the doubles win with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over senior Reb Mariano at No. 2 singles.

White combined with sophomore Aleksander Lazowski for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, before adding a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Junior Aaron Diamond and freshman Juan Camilo Riano Rojas also earned points for Stonehill with their wins at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

Stonehill (9-3, 1-0 NE10) returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Southern New Hampshire University, ranked 4 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, for an NE10 matchup at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Friday, April 5, to host rival Bentley University for its Purple & White Match at 3:30 p.m. Assumption (0-10, 0-1 NE10) hosts Bentley on Saturday at noon.
