Men's Tennis Sweeps Saint Michael’s, 9-0


Newman posted wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles for the Skyhawks, dropping just three games all afternoon.

Bellio, Newman, Buckley and Ravichandrakumar are double-winners for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (April 7, 2018) – Stonehill College notched its second-straight win to move back into contention for postseason play with a 9-0 sweep of Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Seniors Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM), as well as sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) and freshman Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) led Stonehill to its second-straight win as double-winners on the afternoon. Senior Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) and sophomore Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, New Hampshire/Moultonborough Academy) also earned points for the Skyhawks with their wins at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

Bellio and Newman led a sweep of the three doubles matches with their 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles. Bellio picked up a win at No. 1 singles when Saint Michael's sophomore Matt Mosher (Fairfield, Connecticut/Fairfield Warde) retired with Bellio leading 5-2 in the first set. Newman breezed past junior Dan Foley (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Buckley and senior Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) recorded an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill, and then Buckley swept past junior Jake Remillard (Saint Albans, Vermont/BFA-Saint Albans), 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Ravichandrakumar and freshman Joey Conrod (Newtown, Connecticut/Newtown) posted an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles for the Skyhawks. Ravichandrakumar added a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles for the Skyhawks against freshman Colby Antonacci (Bolton Valley, Vermont/Mount Mansfield Union).

Stonehill (9-6, 3-3 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow, when it hosts Merrimack College for Senior Day at Watt Courts at 1 p.m. Saint Michael's (0-10, 0-2 NE10) visits Emerson College tomorrow at 10 a.m.
