Bellio Named NE10 Player of the Week

Saint Joseph, Michigan, senior earns weekly honor for eighth time

EASTON, Mass. (March 17, 2018) – Stonehill College senior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for men's tennis by the league office.

Bellio posted a combined 5-1 record in singles and doubles play in a 3-0 week to close out Stonehill's Spring Break trip to Central Florida. He teamed up with freshman Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) to win all three of their matches at No. 1 doubles, running their record to 8-0 thjs spring after Bellio returned from a semester abroad in the fall. He also posted a 2-1 mark at No. 1 singles for the Skyhawks.

Bellio was a double-winner in Stonehill's 9-0 NE10 win over Saint Anselm College on Monday. He and Newman opened with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and then Bellio followed that up by defeating Saint Anselm senior Eric Howes, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). Bellio also earned two points in the Skyhawks 7-2 win over Clark University, closing out a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against freshman Jose Della-Valle after teaming up with Newman for another 8-1 doubles win. Bellio and Newman also notched an 8-5 doubles decision in Wednesday's 5-4 win over Wheaton (Ill.) College.

Bellio has posted a combined 12-3 record in singles and doubles play, competing at the top flight for Stonehill in both, since returning to the team after his semester abroad. He and Newman are 8-0 since linking up to start the semester, with Bellio posting a 4-3 singles record.

Bellio, who earns NE10 Player of the Week honors for the eighth time over his career, has posted an 83-51 combined record in singles and doubles play over his career at Stonehill. He is 31-28 in singles play, competing at No. 1 for the Skyhawks, including a 16-11 mark in the NE10, to go with a 52-23 doubles record, including 16-12 in the NE10. Bellio has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and NE10 Academic All-Conference honors over the course of his career at the College, and was an All-NE10 doubles performer as a freshman with classmate Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers). He also earned a spot on the NE10 All-Rookie Team and has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.

Stonehill (7-3, 1-0 NE10) is back in action today for an NE10 match at Franklin Pierce University. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, against regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m.
