Men's Tennis Defeats Clark in Spring Break Finale, 7-2

Bellio leads Skyhawks with wins at #1 singles and doubles

LAKE NONA, Fla. (March 8, 2018) – Stonehill College closed out its spring break trip with a 7-2 victory over Clark University in non-conference men's tennis action at the USTA National Training Center this afternoon.

Senior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) led Stonehill to its third-straight win and sixth over its last seven matches with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. He combined with freshman Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles as the Skyhawks swept the three doubles matches to send them on their way to the win. Bellio followed that up with a 6-4, 6-0 decision against Clark freshman Jose Della-Valle (Miami, Florida/Unidad Educativa Monte Tabor).

Sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep Fla.)) and freshman Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) were both double-winners for Stonehill, starting by combining for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. White added a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) win over Clark sophomore Jack Han (Bakersfield, California/Bakersfield Christian) at No. 3 singles, while Ravichandrakumar defeated junior Andrey Samadaev (Boca Raton, Florida/Boca Raton Prep International) 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4.

Sophomore Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, New Hampshire/Moultonborough Academy) added a win at No. 5 singles against sophomore Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) to improve to 9-0 this season. Seniors Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) and Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) notched an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles for the Skyhawks.

Senior Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Florida/Donna Klein) and junior Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Massachusetts/Mount Everett Regional) earned points for Clark with their wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively, both rallying from a set down to win in third set tiebreakers.

Stonehill (7-3, 1-0 NE10) returns to action on Saturday, March 17, when it visits Franklin Pierce University for a Northeast-10 Conference match at noon. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, against regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m. Clark (1-6, 0-0 NEWMAC) travels to Regis College on Tuesday, March 18, at 4:30 p.m.
