Ravichandrakumar leads Skyhawks as double-winner

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 7, 2018) – Stonehill College picked up its fifth win over its last six matches, with a 5-4 decision over Wheaton (Ill.) College in non-conference men's tennis action at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center today.

Sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) led the way for Stonehill by posting singles and doubles wins. He teamed up with freshman Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) to coast to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles as the Skyhawks won two of the three doubles matches. Ravichandrakumar followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Wheaton sophomore Andrew Bristol (Omaha, Nebraska/Millard North).

Senior Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) and sophomore Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, New Hampshire/Moultonborough Academy) also picked up singles wins to clinch the win for Stonehill after Wheaton swept the top three positions in singles play. Lisichenok won both sets by a break over freshman Alexander Winters (Wheaton, Illinois/Veritas Press Scholars Academy) for a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 5 singles. Diamond improved to 8-0 in singles play this season with a 6-4, 6-2 win against junior Christopher Jones (Wheaton, Illinois/Wheaton Academy) at No. 6.

Stonehill's No. 1 doubles team of senior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and freshman Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) remained unbeaten with their 8-5 victory to improve to 7-0.

Freshman Anderson Park (Belvidere, Illinois/Belvidere North) led Wheaton with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles against Bellio. Sophomore Jeremiah Yi (Seoul, South Korea) and senior Karl Wenzel (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West) also collected singles wins for the Thunder at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Stonehill (6-3, 1-0 NE10) wraps up its spring break schedule tomorrow against Clark University at the USTA National Training Center at 11:30 a.m. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, against regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m. Wheaton (0-7, 0-0 CCIW) plays Coe College tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
