Bellio, Newman, White and Ravichandrakumar all double-winners for Skyhawks

LAKE NONA, Fla. (March 5, 2018) – Stonehill College opened its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a 9-0 victory over Saint Anselm College in NE10 men's tennis action at the USTA National Training Center this afternoon.

Senior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph), sophomore Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) and freshmen Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) and Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) were all double-winners to lead Stonehill to victory in its NE10 opener. Bellio and Newman remained unbeaten at No. 1 doubles for the Skyhawks (6-0) with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Bellio followed that up with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win at No. 1 singles over Saint Anselm senior Eric Howes (Shawnee, Kansas/Mill Valley), while Newman cruised past senior Adam Weinstein (Vernon Rockville, Connecticut/East Catholic) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

White and Ravichandrakumar added an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles for Stonehill. White then posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against senior Brian Kavanagh (Wilbraham, Massachusetts/Minnechaug Regional), while Ravichandrakumar recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against junior Daniel Kmetz (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM). Senior Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) and freshman Joey Conrod (Newtown, Connecticut/Newtown) wrapped up the Skyhawks doubles sweep with their 8-5 win at No. 3, while senior Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) and sophomore Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, New Hampshire/Moultonborough Academy) each chipped in with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Stonehill (5-3, 1-0 NE10) returns to action on Wednesday, when it faces Wheaton (Ill.) College at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center in Orlando at 12:30 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, against regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m. Saint Anselm (0-6, 0-3 NE10) plays Ursinus College tomorrow at 8 a.m.
