EASTON, Mass. (October 4, 2017) – Stonehill College freshmen Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week for men's tennis by the league office.

Newman earns Rookie of the Week honors for the second time after sharing the honors, along with Player of the Week accolades, with classmate Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) on September 12. Newman posted a combined 3-1 record in singles and doubles play in a 1-1 week for Stonehill last week. He won both of his matches at No. 1 singles for the Skyhawks, opening with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Eastern Nazarene College junior Alex Partyka on Tuesday, and then adding a 6-3, 6-1 win over UMass Dartmouth senior Patrick Pacheco in Stonehill's 9-0 win over the Corsairs on Thursday. Newman and senior Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) also recorded an 8-2 win over UMass Dartmouth's top doubles pairing.

Newman, who along with White won the A-Bracket of Stonehill's Doubles Invitational last month, has posted a combined record of 7-3 in singles and doubles play early in his freshman season. He is 3-1 in singles, to go with a 4-2 doubles mark with two different playing partners.

Stonehill (1-1, 0-0 NE10) closes out its fall season this weekend, when it competes at the Connecticut College on Saturday in New London, Connecticut.
