Men's Tennis Drops Dual Match Opener at Eastern Nazarene, 6-2

Newman wins at No. 1 singles for Skyhawks

QUINCY, Mass. (September 26, 2017) – Stonehill College opened its dual match schedule with a 6-2 setback at Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference men's tennis action on the ENC Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Sophomore Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) led Eastern Nazarene to the win by earning points at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. He and junior Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles that clinched a 2-1 Lions edge heading into singles. Siercke followed up the doubles win with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) decision over Stonehill freshman Russell White (Toronto, Ontario/Saddlebrook (Prep)) at No. 2.

Freshman Trent Newman (Old Greenwich, Connecticut/South Burlington) earned a point for Stonehill with his 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Classmates Joey Conrod (Newtown, Connecticut/Newton) and Jeffrey Eng (Guilford, Connecticut/Guilford) also collected a point for the Skyhawks with their 8-3 win at No. 6 doubles.

Stonehill (0-1, 0-0 NE10) is right back in action on Thursday when it hosts UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference matchup at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Nazarene (3-0, 0-0 CCC) hosts UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, October 3, at 3 p.m.
