Fernandes and Marreiroses lead Penmen to victory

EASTON, Mass. (April 5, 2017) – Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 4 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, swept singles play to claim an 8-1 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Juniors Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) and Ricardo and Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) led the way for Southern New Hampshire as double-winners. Fernandes and Ricardo Marreiros edged out a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles and then Fernandes, ranked No. 7 in the ITA East Region singles rankings, added a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill junior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph). Marreiros, ranked No. 4 in the region, posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against junior Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers).

Miguel Marrieros and junior Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Marrieros, ranked 18^th in the region's singles rankings, registered a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against freshman Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)). Aubron rounded out the double-winners for SNHU with his victory at No. 4 singles.

Junior Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) and sophomore Dimitri Vlassov (Marblehead, Massachusetts/Marblehead) combined to earn Stonehill's point with their 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Stonehill (4-6, 2-2 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow when it hosts Franklin Pierce University inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (10-6, 5-0 NE10) hosts Saint Michael's College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
