Gagnon wins at No. 6 singles for Skyhawks

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 8, 2017) – Findlay University posted an 8-1 win over Stonehill College in non-conference men's tennis action at the USTA National Campus today.

Junior Oriol Ferrer (Barcelona, Spain) and sophomore Carlos Blanco (Caracas, Venezuela) led four double-winners for Findlay. The duo combined for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles and then Ferrer followed that up with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill junior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph). Blanco led junior Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) 6-0, 4-1, when Lisichenok retired.

Junior Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) earned Stonehill's point with a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 6 singles against Findlay senior Sherwin Miranda (Mumbai, India). Freshman Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) battled for the Skyhawks against sophomore Nicholas Kopylec (Guelph, Ontario/John F. Ross) at No. 3 singles, dropping the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (9-7), before falling in the second set 6-2.

Stonehill (2-3, 0-0 NE10) closes out its spring break trip on Friday when it faces Aquinas College of Michigan at Lake Eva Tennis Center in Haines City, Florida, at 9 a.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Wednesday, March 15, when they host Assumption College for its Northeast-10 Conference opener at 3:30 p.m. Findlay (6-7, 0-2 GLIAC) is off until Friday, March 24, when it hosts Michigan Tech at 2 p.m.
