Bellio leads five double-winners for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (February 26, 2017) – Stonehill College finished off a 2-0 weekend with a 9-0 victory over Endicott College in non-conference men's tennis action inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex tonight.

Junior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) led five double-winners for Stonehill with victories at No. 1 singles and doubles. He teamed up with classmate Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) for an 8-6 doubles win and then led Endicott junior Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) 6-4, 5-5 when Kirkpatrick retired. Lisichenok was also among the Skyhawks double-winners, rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over freshman Justin Toler (Concord, Massachusetts/Concord) at No. 2 singles.

Junior Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) and freshman Manu Ravichandrakumar (Chennai, India/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) also earned singles and doubles wins for Stonehill. The duo paired up for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and then Ravichandrakumar claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against freshman Charles Book (Devon, Pennsylvania/Friends Central School). Buckley battled past junior Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Connecticut/New Milford) 6-0, 0-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.

Junior Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) rounded out Stonehill's double-winners with victories at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles.

Stonehill (2-1, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action next Monday, March 6, when it opens a three match spring break trip to Central Florida against Cedarville (Ohio) University at Lake Eva Park, in Haines City, Florida, at 8 a.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Wednesday, March 15, when they host Assumption College for its Northeast-10 Conference opener at 3:30 p.m. Endicott (3-1, 0-0 CCC) visits Saint Anselm College on Friday at 4 p.m.
