Gill leads Panthers past Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (September 15, 2016) – Clark University posted a 6-3 victory over Stonehill College in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this evening.

Freshman Barun Gill (Union City, California/Saint Isher Singh) and sophomore Teodor Nicola-Antoniu (Bucharest, Romania) were both double-winners to lead Clark to the win. Gill teamed up with junior Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Florida/Donna Klein) for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles as the Cougars set the stage for the win by taking two of three doubles matches. Gill followed that up with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Stonehill junior Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph).

Nicola-Antoniu and sophomore Mateo Gomez (Bogota, Columbia) combined for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. He followed that up with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 triumph at No. 4 singles against junior Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM). Sophomore Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, Florida/Boca Raton Prep International) and freshman Jack Han (Bakersfield, California/Bakersfield Christian) also contributed with singles wins for Clark.

Bellio and junior Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) teamed up for Stonehill's lone doubles point with their 8-2 decision at No. 1. Junior Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) battled past Siegel for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, while freshman Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, New Hampshire/Moultonborough Academy) rallied past Gomez 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action next Saturday, September 24, when it participates on the Connecticut College/United States Coast Guard Academy Tournament. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday, September 27, to host Endicott College at 4 p.m. Clark (1-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) hosts Endicott next Wednesday, September 21, at 4 p.m.
