Le Moyne Posts Key NE-10 Win over Men's Tennis, 7-2

Bellio and Castillo notch singles wins to lead Skyhawks

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 20, 2016) – Le Moyne College swept three doubles matches on its way to a key 7-2 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Skytop Tennis Courts this morning.

Sophomore Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) led four double-winners for Le Moyne in the match. He combined with freshman Tyler Underwood (Minoa, New York/East Syracuse-Minoa) for an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles, as the Dolphins carried a 3-0 lead after doubles play and never looked back. Barton followed that up with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision against Stonehill sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) at No. 2 singles. Underwood also added a singles win for Le Moyne with his 6-0, 6-2 victory over senior Gerard Tierney (Marshfield, Massachusetts/Marshfield) at No. 6.

Senior Stephane Legris (Queensbury, New York/Queensbury) and junior Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, New York/Ballston Spa) also picked up singles and doubles wins for Le Moyne, closing out the doubles sweep with their 8-6 victory at No. 3. Legris added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against sophomore Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM), while Spoor defeated sophomore Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) at No. 5, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

Sophomore Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) rallied for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-6 victory at No. 1 singles for Stonehill against Le Moyne junior James Gayvert (Fairport, New York/Fairport). Junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/St. Joseph School) added a point for the Skyhawks with his 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 triumph over sophomore Hallam Doney (Andover, England/Peter Symonds).

Stonehill (9-8, 5-4 NE-10) closes out its regular season schedule on Saturday when it hosts Adelphi University, ranked seventh in the most recent NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, for Senior Day at 11 a.m. Le Moyne (8-10, 5-4 NE-10) visits Assumption College for its regular season finale on Saturday at 11 a.m.
