Men's Tennis Rolls Against Eastern Nazarene, 8-1

Skyhawks sweep singles matches after earning 2-1 edge in doubles play 

EASTON, Mass. (March 16, 2016) – Stonehill College bounced back with an 8-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Sophomores Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) led three double-winners for Stonehill this afternoon with their victories in singles and doubles play. The Skyhawks held a 2-1 edge following doubles play, keyed by an 8-3 decision at No. 1 doubles by Bellio and Buckley, before sweeping the six singles matches. Bellio posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles against Eastern Nazarene freshman Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia), while Buckley breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles against freshman Shaw Campbell (Reading, Massachusetts/Enterprise).

Senior Gerard Tierney (Marshfield, Massachusetts/Marshfield) was also a double-winner for Stonehill. He teamed up with freshman Michael Doody (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles Academy) for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Tierney they recorded a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of freshman Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton) at No. 6 singles.

Campbell and senior Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) teamed up for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles to provide the lone Eastern Nazarene point in the match.

Stonehill (4-4, 1-0 NE-10) doesn't return to action until next Wednesday, March 23, when it opens the spring portion of its Northeast-10 schedule at Assumption College at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Tuesday, March 29, when they host American International College at 3 p.m. Eastern Nazarene (6-3, 0-0 CCC) is off until March 31 when it hosts Gordon College at 3:30 p.m.
