Charriere, Vane and Kechai lead Warriors to win

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2016) – Wayne State University of Michigan recorded a 9-0 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region rankings, in non-conference men's tennis action at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center today.

Junior Clement Charriere (Marseille, France), freshman Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) and senior Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) led Wayne State to the victory as double-winners. Charriere and Vane, the fifth-ranked doubles team in the Midwest region by the ITA, claimed a hard-fought 9-7 decision at No. 1 doubles against Stonehill sophomores Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM). Charriere added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers).

Vane also recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against Stonehill junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/St. Joseph School). Kechai defeated Bellio at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2 after teaming up with freshman Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Michigan/Coldwater) for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Stonehill (3-4, 1-0 NE-10) is off until next week when it returns home on Wednesday, March 16, to host Eastern Nazarene College for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m. Wayne State (2-3, 0-0 GLIAC) will face Hampton University tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
