Eagles top four lead the way in key regional win

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 9, 2016) – Post University, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, claimed a 6-3 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the region, in non-conference men's tennis action at Lake Cane Tennis Center today.

Post's top four players were all double-winners to lead the way to victory over Stonehill, which took two of three doubles matches before sweeping the top four singles flights to clinch the win. Sophomores Nikola Crvelin (Kastel Luksic, Croatia) and Martin Munoz (Las Palmas, Spain), the No. 5-ranked doubles team in the East Region by the ITA, claimed an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Crvelin, the 17th-ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA, followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 1 singles against Stonehill sophomore Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph), while Munoz won at No. 2 against sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) 6-1, 6-1.

Senior Peter Fanous (Cairo, Egypt) and sophomore Ludvig Henrikson (Taby, Sweden) teamed up to edge Bellio and sophomore Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Fanous followed up with a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles against junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/St. Joseph School), while Henrikson defeated Buckley at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1.

Freshmen Michael Doody (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles Academy) and Dimitri Vlassov (Marblehead, Massachusetts/Marblehead) combined for Stonehill's doubles point with their 9-7 decision at No. 3. Sophomore Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles against senior Vladyslav Dyenyezhka (Kharkiv, Ukraine) for the Skyhawks, while senior captain Gerard Tierney (Marshfield, Massachusetts/Marshfield) posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over junior Ryan Moffat (London, England) at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (3-3, 1-0 NE-10) closes out its spring break trip tomorrow against Wayne State University of Michigan at Fort Gatlin Tennis Center at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Wednesday, March 16, to host Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30 p.m. Post (2-2, 0-0 CACC) visits No. 6 Lynn University tomorrow at 3 p.m.
