Bellio leads Skyhawks with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (March 8, 2016) – Cedarville University of Ohio rallied from a deficit following doubles play to claim a 5-4 victory over Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, in non-conference men's tennis action at San Lando Tennis Center today.

Sophomore Jonathan Class (Brownsburg, Indiana/Brownsburg) led Cedarville by posting victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles. He teamed up with freshman Matt Brumbaugh (West Milton, Ohio/Milton-Union) for the Yellow Jackets lone doubles win with an 8-4 decision. Class followed that with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Stonehill sophomore Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School).

Junior Ryan Shomo (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision over Stonehill sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) at No. 2 singles. Sophomore David Carter (Boca Raton, Florida/Westminster Academy) notched a back and forth 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 triumph at No. 6 singles against senior Gerard Tierney (Marshfield, Massachusetts/Marshfield). Freshman Luke Ingles (Clyde, Michigan) rounded out the Yellow Jackets four singles wins with a 6-4, 6-2 win over sophomore Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM).

Sophomore Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) was a double-winner to lead Stonehill. He and Buckley teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles against Shomo and junior Joel Clark (Dayton, Ohio/Bellbrook), before Bellio held on for a 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 triumph over Brumbaugh and No. 1 singles. Freshmen Michael Doody (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles Academy) and Dimitri Vlassov (Marblehead, Massachusetts/Marblehead) combined for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles against Ingles and junior Stephen Combs (Miamisburg, Ohio/Dayton Christian). Junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Saint Joseph School) also earned a point for the Skyhawks with his 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles against Clark.

Stonehill (3-2, 1-0 NE-10) is right back in action on Wednesday when it faces regional opponent Post University at Lake Cane Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday, March 29, to host American International College for a Northeast-10 dual match at 3 p.m. Cedarville (8-2, 0-0 Great Midwest) faces University of Sciences tomorrow at noon.
