Men's Tennis Caps Fall with Win at Endicott, 7-2

Buckley and Castillo lead Skyhawks with singles and doubles wins 

BEVERLY, Mass. (October 6, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, closed out its fall schedule with a 7-2 victory over Endicott College in non-conference men's tennis action at South Campus Courts today.

Sophomore Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) and junior Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) led Stonehill with singles and doubles wins. Buckley and fellow sophomore Tom Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) to grind out a 9-8 (8-6) victory at No. 1 doubles. Buckley followed that up with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against sophomore Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Connecticut/New Milford).

Castillo and sophomore Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) added to Stonehill's sweep of the three doubles matches with an 8-2 win at No. 2. Castillo added a 6-2, 6-2 decision over junior Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts/Martha's Vineyard Regional) at No. 4 singles. Freshmen Dimitri Vlassov (Marblehead, Massachusetts/Marblehead) and Michael Doody (Franklin, Massachusetts/Mount Saint Charles Academy) contributed a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles for the Skyhawks.

Senior Philip Klados (Lake Forest, California/Santa Margarita Catholic) rallied from a set down to register a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-4 triumph at No. 2 singles against Endicott junior Eric Pierce (Barrington, Rhode Island/Barrington). Sophomore Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) chipped in with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles against sophomore Sam Salvas (Stowe, Vermont/Stowe).

Senior Michael Dolph (Stratford, Connecticut/Bunnell) and sophomore Chris Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) earned points for Endicott. Kirkpatrick defeated Bellio at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4, while Dolph won a back and forth 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 decision over Lisichenok at No. 3.

Stonehill (3-0, 1-0 NE-10) closed out its fall schedule with this afternoon's match and will return to action during the spring semester, with the schedule being announced in December. Endicott (1-2, 0-0 CCC) hosts Clark University on Wednesday, October 6, at 3 p.m.
