Stonehill Closes Out Regular Season with Win Over Le Moyne, 9-0

Skyhawks sew up No. 3 seed for next week's NE-10 Tournament 

EASTON, Mass. (April 18, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in this week's NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, closed out the regular season with a commanding 9-0 victory over Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action on Senior Day at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Stonehill (14-5, 8-2 NE-10) will be the No. 3 seed for the upcoming NE-10 Tournament and will host 6th-seeded Le Moyne (7-10, 5-5 NE-10) right back here at Watt Courts on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The winner will advance to Thursday's semifinal round to face No. 2-seed Adelphi University (9-3, 9-1 NE-10) at 2 p.m.

Seniors Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/Saint Anthony's) celebrated Senior Day by posting both singles and doubles wins on the afternoon. The duo led a sweep of the three doubles matches with their 8-2 decision at No. 2. Alaimo rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles against freshman Hallam Doney (Andover, England), while Sanders posted a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4 against junior Stephane Legris (Queensbury, New York/Queensbury).

Freshmen Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) were also double-winners for Stonehill on the afternoon, combining for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles to open the day. Bellio also battled to a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles against sophomore James Gayvert (Fairport, New York/Fairport), while Lisichenok added a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 singles against sophomore Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, New York/Ballston Spa).

Seniors Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville) and Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) also earned points for Stonehill in their final regular season home match. Drzal combined with freshman Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, while Ringstad breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against sophomore Adam Celata (Hamilton, Massachusetts/Hamilton-Wenham Regional). Junior Philip Klados (Lake Forest, California/Santa Margarita Catholic) also notched points for the Skyhawk with his 6-3, 6-2 win over sophomore Steve Procopio (Jamesville, New York/Jamesville-DeWitt) at No. 5 singles.
