Stonehill Tops USciences for Sixth-Straight Win, 8-1

Skyhawks enter final week of regular season on hot streak 

EASTON, Mass. (April 12, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the first NCAA Division II East Regional rankings of the year released on Wednesday, ran its winning streak to six games with an 8-1 triumph over University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Seniors Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/Saint Anthony's) as well as freshmen Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) were all part of two match wins to lead Stonehill to victory. Alaimo and Sanders combined to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles as the Skyhawks won two of the three doubles matches before sweeping the six singles matches. Alaimo added a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles against USciences senior Cameron Carlock (Bridgeville, Pennsylvania/South Fayette), while Sanders posted a 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 5 singles against freshman Chandat Phan (Pennridge, Pennsylvania/Perkasie).

Bellio and Lisichenok earned Stonehill's other doubles triumph with an 8-1 victory at No. 1. Bellio followed that up with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over senior Steven Galerkin (San Francisco, California/St. Ignatius Prep). Lisichenok posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over sophomore Tajay McLeod (Upper Darby, Pennsylvania/Upper Darby) at No. 4 singles. Senior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville) and junior Philip Klados (Lake Forest, California/Santa Margarita Catholic) each chipped in with singles wins for the Skyhawks. Drzal rallied for a 6-7 (7-5), 7-5, 10-4 win against junior Peter Micu (Hammonton, New Jersey/Hammonton) at No. 3 singles, while Klados rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 decision over freshman Tanner Kerr (Avalon, New Jersey/Middle Township) at No. 6.

McLeod and Kerr combined to earn USciences lone point with an 8-6 triumph at No. 3 doubles against Drzal and senior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic).

Stonehill (13-4, 7-1 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Merrimack College, ranked third in the East Region, for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Saturday when they close out the regular season by hosting Le Moyne College for their Purple & White match on Senior Day at Watt Courts at 1 p.m. USciences (2-11, 1-3 CACC).visits Caldwell College tomorrow for a Conference match at 3 p.m.
