Stonehill Coasts at Wheaton, 5-0


Freshman Thomas Bellio earned wins at No. 1 singles and doubles today.

Bellio and Drzal lead Skyhawks as double-winners 

NORTON, Mass. (March 19, 2015) – Stonehill College coasted to a 5-0 victory over Wheaton College in non-conference men's tennis action at Haas Athletic Center this afternoon.

Senior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville) and freshman Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) led Stonehill to the victory as double-winners in the match. Bellio combined with classmate Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles and then Bellio added a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at No. 1 singles against junior David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany).

Drzal and freshman Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill and then Drzal wrapped up the deciding point with his 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles against senior Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School). Seniors Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/Saint Anthony's) contributed to the Skyhawks sweep of the three doubles matches with their 8-2 win at No. 2.

Stonehill (7-3, 2-0 NE-10) has already had Saturday's NE-10 matchup with Assumption College postponed and is now scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 24, at Adelphi University for a key league matchup at 2 p.m. Wheaton (3-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) hosts Bridgewater State University next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
