Stonehill Blanks Eastern Nazarene, 9-0


Senior Tom Alaimo posted wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Alaimo and Drzal lead Skyhawks to victory 

TAMPA, Fla. (March 11, 2015) – Stonehill College rolled to a 9-0 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference men's tennis action at Hillsborough Community College this afternoon.

Seniors Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville) led Stonehill's double-winners. Alaimo combined with classmate Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/Saint Anthony's) for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Alaimo followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles against freshman Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia). Sanders also added a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles against sophomore Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela).

Drzal and freshman Tom Buckley (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM) teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and then Drzal added a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles against senior Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Massachusetts/Providence Country Day). Buckley notched a 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 6 singles against senior Tyler Perron (Plympton, Massachusetts/Silver Lake Regional).

Freshman Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill. He and classmate Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) combined for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and then Lisichenok added a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles against junior Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Freshman Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) contributed a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against junior Davis Steelman (Darlington, Maryland/The Jacob Tome School).

Stonehill (6-2, 2-0 NE-10) closes out its spring break schedule tomorrow against Wayne State (Mich.) University at Lake Eva Tennis Center in Haines City, Florida, at noon. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, March 21, to host Assumption College for a Northeast-10 match at 1 p.m. Eastern Nazarene (3-2, 0-0 CCC) plays Northwestern (Minn.) College on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
