Saint Cloud State Defeats Stonehill, 6-3

Alaimo, Sanders and Lisichenok post singles wins for Skyhawks 

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 10, 2015) – Saint Cloud State University, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Central Region rankings, posted a 6-3 victory over Stonehill College in non-conference men's tennis action at Lakeland Beerman Tennis Complex this afternoon.

Junior Marcelo Locatelli and freshman Pau Martin Sole were both double-winners to lead Saint Cloud State to the win. Locatelli combined with senior Joao Poli for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles as the Huskies swept all three doubles matches on their way to victory. Locatelli added a 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 1 singles against Stonehill freshman Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph).

Sole and junior Victor Kasak teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles for  Saint Cloud State, with Sole adding a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory over senior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville) at No. 3 singles. Freshman Lucas Norbiato rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 win at No. 6 singles against freshman Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) for the Huskies.

Seniors Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/Saint Anthony's) as well as freshman Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) all picked up singles wins for Stonehill. Alaimo defeated Poli 7-5, 1-6, 10-5 at No. 2 singles, while Sanders notched a 6-3, 6-1 decision against sophomore Nathanial Cherry. Lisichenok won a back and forth 6-0, 4-6, 10-7 matchup at No. 4 singles against sophomore Joao Vitor Souto.

Stonehill (5-2, 2-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it faces Eastern Nazarene College at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida, at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, March 21, to host Assumption College for a Northeast-10 match at 1 p.m. Saint Cloud State (7-2, 0-0 NSIC) was scheduled to play a second match against Lehigh University tonight.
