Stonehill Caps Fall Season at Bryant Invitational

Sanders/Gagnon post doubles win and split for Skyhawks 

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (October 13, 2014) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team closed out its fall schedule by competing at the Bryant University Invitational over the weekend.

Stonehill's doubles pairing of senior Jonathan Sanders (Holbrook, New York/St. Anthony's) and freshman Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) earned a win and split in their three matches over the weekend, while the Skyhawks also got singles wins from senior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville) and freshman Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers).

Sanders and Gagnon earned a point for Stonehill in their matchup with host Bryant with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Faisal Alabdulmuhsen and Abdullah Abdulmohsen. The Skyhawks pairing also split with Jon Kraiger and Doug Butturini from Connecticut College, 7-6, 4-6. Lisichenok earned a point against Connecticut College with his 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Jon Sokolsky.

Drzal earned a point for Stonehill in their matchup with the University of Hartford, recording a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles against Luis Montes.

Stonehill closed out its fall schedule with the team title at its season-opening Stonehill Doubles Invitational before posting a 4-0 dual match record, including 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Lisichenok and fellow freshman Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) also combined to win the B-Doubles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional, while Bellio also advanced to the B-Singles semifinals.
