Stonehill Serves Up Win Over Clark, 8-1


Freshman Thomas Bellio won at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles to lead the Skyhawks.

Bellio and Lisichenok lead Skyhawks to fourth win 

EASTON, Mass. (October 8, 2014) – Stonehill College closed out its fall dual match schedule with an 8-1 victory over Clark University in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this evening.

Freshmen Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) and Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) again led the way for Stonehill as double-winners. The duo teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles as the Skyhawks won two of the three doubles matches on their way to the win. Bellio added a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Clark junior Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Puerto Rico), while Lisichenok rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 10-5 win at No. 5 singles against senior Joel Simonson (Waterford, Connecticut/Waterford).

Senior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/Saint Anthony's) and freshman Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, Rhode Island/The Wheeler School) teamed up for an 8-3 doubles win as the Skyhawks won two of three in doubles play. Seniors Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic), Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) and Jared Drzal (West Sayville, New York/Sayville) as well as junior Philip Klados (Lake Forest, California/Santa Margarita Catholic) all earned singles wins for the Skyhawks in the win.

Pinoargote and sophomore Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Massachusetts/Falmouth) combined for the lone Clark point with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Alaimo and Ringstad.

Stonehill (4-0, 2-0 NE-10) is back in action this weekend when it wraps up its fall schedule at the Bryant University Doubles Tournament in Smithfield, Rhode Island, on Saturday and Sunday. Clark (2-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) hosts Endicott College next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
