Bellio Sweeps NE-10 Weekly Honors for Second-Straight Week

Saint Joseph, Michigan, freshman named Player and Rookie of the Week 

EASTON, Mass. (October 7, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman Thomas Bellio (Saint Joseph, Michigan/Saint Joseph) has swept the Northeast-10 Conference's weekly men's tennis honors for the second straight week, the league office announced today.

Bellio earned the Northeast-10's Player and Rookie of the Week awards for the second straight week after continuing the impressive start to his collegiate career. He led Stonehill to a 3-0 week by posting a combined 6-0 record in singles and doubles play for the week. Bellio went 3-0 at No. 1 singles, while also combining with classmate Nikolay Lisichenok (Danvers, Massachusetts/Danvers) for three doubles wins, going 2-0 at the top flight in the Skyhawks two NE-10 wins last week to go with an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles in Saturday's 9-0 win over Endicott.

Bellio battled back for a 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 win over Christopher Brewer in Tuesday's 9-0 win over Franklin Pierce after he and Lisichenok notched an 8-2 doubles win. Bellio rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Adam Weinstein in Thursday's 8-1 win over Saint Anselm and then posted a back and forth 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 11-9 decision against Endicott's Chris Kirkpatrick.

Bellio is a combined 16-1 in singles and doubles play over the first month of his collegiate career, having teamed up with Lisichenok to win both the B-Doubles draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional, while winning the B-Doubles bracket of the Stonehill Doubles Invitational with senior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, New York/St. Anthony's). Bellio is 6-1 in singles play, including the 2-0 mark in NE-10 matches, while posting a combined 10-0 doubles mark, including 2-0 in NE-10 play. He also reached the semifinal round of the B-Singles draw of the ITA East Regional.

Stonehill (3-0, 2-0 NE-10) rounds out its fall dual match schedule on Wednesday, when it hosts Clark University for a non-conference matchup at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks wrap up their fall season this weekend at the Bryant University Doubles Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
