Division I South Dakota State Defeats Stonehill, 9-0

Skyhawks close out spring break trip with Division I challenge, host Clark next Saturday 

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (March 15, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked 9th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, capped its spring break trip with a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Division I South Dakota State University in non-conference men's tennis action at Sanlando Park on Friday night.

Junior Parker Lawler (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South) and sophomore Mateus Moreira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led five double-winners for South Dakota State in the victory. The duo combined for an 8-3 victory over Stonehill senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) at No. 1 doubles. Lawler followed with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles against senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford), while Moreira swept Armstrong 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

Stonehill junior Tom Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) battled sophomore Lucas Pereira (Parana, Brazil) tough at No. 6 singles, forcing a third set tiebreaker before falling 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.

Stonehill (7-2, 4-0 NE-10) is off until next Saturday when it hosts Clark University for a non-league matchup at 1 p.m. South Dakota State (10-5, 0-0 Summit) is at Fort Wayne next Friday at 3 p.m.
