Ringstad Earns Second-Straight Player of the Week Award

Fairbanks, Alaska, junior collects award for fifth time in his career

EASTON, Mass. (September 29, 2013) – Stonehill College junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's men's tennis Player of the Week by the league office.

Ringstad, who has earned the award in back-to-back weeks (fifth career), led Stonehill to a pair of Northeast-10 wins by posting a combined 4-0 record in single and doubles play over the two matches. He won both his matches at No. 2 singles in straight sets in 8-1 wins at Le Moyne College and Saint Michael's College. Ringstad also teamed up with senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) for a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles.

Ringstad closed out Stonehill's fall schedule with a combined 10-2 record in singles and doubles play, having won all five of his matches at No. 2 singles, including a 4-0 clip in NE-10 play, to go with a 5-2 doubles mark while paired with Armstrong, 3-1 in Conference play. The duo reached the semifinals of the A-Doubles bracket at the Stonehill Doubles Invitational on September 7.

Ringstad, an All-Northeast-10 performer for singles and doubles during his freshman season, has posted a 70-45 (.609) combined record over his career so far. He is 36-21 in singles matches, including a 17-7 mark in NE-10 play. He has a combined 34-24 doubles record, including 15-9 in NE-10 matches. Ringstad and senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) teamed up to reach the semifinals of the B-Doubles bracket at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional in 2011, while Ringstad also advanced to the Round of 16 for the Championship singles bracket.

Stonehill, ranked tenth in the ITA Division II East Regional rankings, closed out its fall season on Saturday with a 5-0 record overall, including a 4-0 mark in NE-10 play. The Skyhawks spring semester schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
