Hyzak leads double-winners as Skyhawks close out fall season unbeaten
RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked 10th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, closed out its fall schedule with a 7-2 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action today.
Senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) led four double-winners for Stonehill as it closed out its fall schedule with an unbeaten record. He teamed up with junior Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and then powered his way to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles over Franklin Pierce senior Patrick Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth). Drzal was also a double-winner for the Skyhawks, adding a 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles over junior Mark Petrie (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke).
Junior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore Will Brosnan (Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill as the duo claimed an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Sanders added a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles over sophomore Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H./Conant), while Brosnan breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over senior Tyler Colombo (Gardner, Mass./Gardner). Junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) added a point for the Skyhawks with his 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over junior Christopher Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union).
Brewer and Gilhuly claimed a point for Franklin Pierce with an 8-4 decision over Ringstad and senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Jared Taylor (Pelham, N.H./Pelham) recorded a 6-2, 0-6, 7-6 (7-3) win over Armstrong at No. 3 singles.
Stonehill (5-0, 4-0 NE-10) heads into the spring semester portion of the schedule, which will be released in the coming weeks. Franklin Pierce (1-2, 0-2 NE-10) hosts Saint Michael's College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
