Hyzak, Ringstad and Armstrong lead Skyhawks to fourth-straight win
COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 22, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked 10th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, completed a sweep of its weekend road trip with an 8-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Tarrant Recreation Center this afternoon.
Seniors Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) as well as juniors Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic), Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) were all double-winners for Stonehill in the win. Hyzak grinded out a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over Saint Michael's senior Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) after combining with Drzal for an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles. Drzal won a back and forth 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 match with sophomore Charlie Merry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) at No. 4 singles.
Ringstad and Armstrong teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles for Stonehill and then Ringstad posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles over freshman Hayden Steward (Hamilton, Mass./Pingree School). Armstrong collected a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over sophomore Sam Laves (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Brady). Sanders breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over freshman Ben Lambert (Milford, Conn./Milford) after combining with sophomore Will Brosnan (Garden City, N.J./Chaminade) for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Stonehill (4-0, 3-0 NE-10) is off until next Saturday when it visits Franklin Pierce University for an NE-10 clash at 11 a.m. The Skyhawks return home to host its Stonehill Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6. Saint Michael's (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) visits Franklin Pierce next Sunday at 11 a.m.
