Ringstad earns Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in his career
Walsh tabbed Conference's Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (September 18, 2013) – Stonehill College has swept the weekly men's tennis honors from the Northeast-10 Conference the league office has announced.

Junior Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) has been named the NE-10 Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career, while freshman Nick Walsh (Newport, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) collected Rookie of the Week honors.

Ringstad, the 2011-12 NE-10 Rookie of the Year, led Stonehill to a perfect start to its fall dual match schedule as he posted a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play. He was a double-winner in the Skyhawks 9-0 triumph over College of the Holy Cross on Friday with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles over Jimmy Ye after he and senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) registered an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Ringstad and Armstrong added an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles in Saturday's 9-0 win at Saint Anselm in Stonehill's NE-10 opener and then Ringstad followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over Aidan Roach.

Ringstad is a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles play after the first week of the season, having won both of his matches at No. 2 singles to go with a 3-1 doubles mark while paired with Armstrong. The duo reached the semifinals of the A-Doubles bracket at the Stonehill Doubles Invitational on September 7.

Ringstad, an All-Northeast-10 performer for singles and doubles during his freshman season, has posted a 65-44 (.596) combined record over his career so far. He is 33-21 in singles matches, including a 14-7 mark in NE-10 play. He has a combined 32-23 doubles record, including 13-8 in NE-10 matches. Ringstad and senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) teamed up to reach the semifinals of the B-Doubles bracket at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional in 2011, while Ringstad also advanced to the Round of 16 for the Championship singles bracket.

Walsh collects his first NE-10 Rookie of the Week pick after teaming up with Hyzak for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles in Stonehill's 9-0 win over Division I Holy Cross for his collegiate debut on Friday.

Walsh is a 2013 graduate of Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, R.I., where he was a two-year letterwinner and was the fourth-ranked singles player in the state.

Stonehill (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) is back in action this weekend for a pair of NE-10 road matches, visiting Le Moyne College on Saturday at 11 a.m., before traveling to Saint Michael's College on Sunday at noon. The Skyhawks return home to host its Stonehill Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6.
