Hyzak leads double-winners for Skyhawks in dual match opener
Senior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) led the double-winners for Stonehill with victories at No. 1 singles and doubles. He grinded out a 7-6, 6-4 singles decision over Holy Cross senior Ryan Sullivan (Medfield, Mass./Roxbury Latin) after combining with freshman Nick Walsh (Newport, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) for an 8-5 doubles win over Sullivan and freshman Jimmy Ye (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin Academy).
Juniors Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) and Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) as well as senior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) were also double-winners for Stonehill. Ringstad and Armstrong teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and then Ringstad posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Ye at No. 2 singles. Armstrong added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles over freshman Pat O'Shea (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug).
Drzal breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over freshman Elmar Lutz (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bolles) after teaming up with sophomore Will Brosnan (Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade) at No. 3 doubles. Junior Jon Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) also picked up points for the Skyhawks with straight sets wins at No. 6 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow for its first Northeast-10 match of the season at Saint Anselm College at noon. The Skyhawks return home to host its Stonehill Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6. Holy Cross (0-1, 0-0 Patriot) will participate in the Connecticut College Tournament tomorrow.
