Armstrong and Martin earn All-Northeast-10 singles honors
Klados voted to NE-10 All-Rookie team
EASTON, Mass. (April 17, 2013) – Three members of the Stonehill College men's tennis team have earned postseason honors from the Northeast-10 Conference the league announced.
Senior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) and junior Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) both earned All-Northeast-10 Conference honors, while freshman Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) was voted to the NE-10's All-Rookie Team by the Conference's head coaches.
Armstrong earns All-Northeast-10 singles honors for the third-straight year at No. 6 singles, collecting first team honors for the first time after being a third team performer as a freshman and sophomore. He has posted an 18-5 singles record this season, including a 17-4 clip in dual match play and a 7-1 mark in NE-10 matches. Armstrong is 9-3 overall at No. 6 singles to go with an 8-1 record at No. 5. He has also posted a 24-8 doubles record with four different teammates, including a 7-2 mark in NE-10 play and 6-3 clip with Klados, his current partner.
Armstrong, an NE-10 All-Rookie team selection and second team All-Conference honoree at No. 3 doubles with former teammate Jonathan Burke, '11, as a freshman, has posted a career combined record of 88-37 (.704) in singles and doubles play so far over his three year career, including 40-14 (.741) in NE-10 play. He is 40-16 (.714) in his career for singles, including 20-6 (.769) in the NE-10, to go with a 48-21 (.696) career doubles record, including 20-8 (.714) in the NE-10. Armstrong has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status all five semesters at Stonehill so far for having a semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Martin earns All-Northeast-10 singles honors for the second time in his career after also earning third team honors at No. 5 singles his freshman season as well. He has posted a 13-7 overall singles record this season, including 12-6 in dual match play with a 7-1 mark in the NE-10. He is 8-4 this season at No. 5 singles to go with a 4-2 clip at No. 4. Martin has also recorded a 17-12 doubles record this season with four different teammates this season.
Martin, also a three-time All-Northeast-10 doubles performer over his career and All-Rookie team selection as a freshman, enters the postseason with a combined career 100-60 (.625) record in singles and doubles play. He is 45-29 (.608) over his four years in singles play, including 22-10 (.688) in NE-10 matches, to go with a 55-31 (.640) doubles clip, going 24-12 (.667) in the NE-10. Martin earned NE-10 Academic All-Conference honors as a junior and has received a St. Thomas Aquinas Medal for having the highest cumulative grade point average on the team the last two years. He has earned NE-10 Commissioner's and Athletic Director's Honor Roll status every semester at the College and is a Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society member.
Klados, a three-time NE-10 Rookie of the Week this season, has been named to the NE-10 All-Rookie squad as one of the top first year players in the Conference. He has made an immediate contribution for Stonehill in his freshman season, posting a combined 29-17 record in singles and doubles play this season. He is 16-10 in singles play, including a 12-8 dual match record with a 5-2 mark in NE-10 play, and 13-7 in doubles action with four different teammates, including a 4-2 mark in the NE-10. Klados also earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status after the fall semester for having a GPA over 3.0.
Stonehill (15-4, 6-3 NE-10), ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Division II East Regional rankings released today and tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, is in action this afternoon with a Northeast-10 Tournament first round matchup with Adelphi University at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
