Stonehill Opens Spring Trip with Two Wins


Junior Nick Hyzak won all four of his matches on Sunday to lead the Skyhawks to a pair of wins.

Skyhawks cruise to 8-1 win over Berry and 9-0 sweep of Moravian

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 3, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, opened its spring break schedule with a pair of comfortable wins, topping Berry (Ga.) College 8-1 before posting a 9-0 sweep of Moravian College from Pennsylvania at Lake Cane Tennis Center today.

Junior Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) led the way for Stonehill by winning all four of his matches, including a pair of victories at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) and freshman Philip Klados (Lake Forest, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) both went a combined 3-1 clip for the day. Ringstad won both of his matches at No. 1 singles, while Klados was 2-0 at No. 3 and the duo combined to split their two doubles matches.

Seniors Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) were both double-winners for Stonehill in its 8-1 win over Berry, as well as Hyzak. Sophomore Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) also notched a win at No. 6 singles.

Ringstad, Hyzak and Klados were all double-winners for Stonehill in its second win of the day against Moravian. Drzal also claimed a win at No. 4 singles, while classmates Jonathan Sanders (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Anthony Do (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) posted wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

Stonehill (8-0, 3-0 NE-10) is off until Tuesday when it faces Grand Valley State College for a non-conference clash at Rollins College at 8 a.m. The Skyhawks next home match is scheduled for Thursday, March 14, when they host Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30 p.m.
