Alaimo Named to NE-10 All-Championship Team

North Andover, Mass., native rewarded for strong play in NE-10 Tournament

EASTON, Mass. (April 26, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) has been named to the All-Championship Team for the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis tournament, which was won by Merrimack College over the weekend.

Alaimo was a combined 2-1 during Stonehill's two NE-10 Tournament matches, posting a 1-0 clip at No. 4 singles, with his 7-5, 6-3 win over Adelphi University's Bryan Kallenberg keying a Skyhawks comeback from a 2-1 deficit following doubles play for a 5-4 first round victory. Alaimo and sophomore Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) earned Stonehill's lone doubles point with their 8-5 decision at No. 3. Alaimo also led his singles match against Merrimack's Vince Bellino in Thursday's semifinal loss when play was halted after the Warriors clinched the win.

Alaimo posted a 31-13 combined record in singles and doubles play during his freshman season for Stonehill. He was 17-6 for singles, including an 8-3 clip in NE-10 contests, going 15-4 overall in dual matches. Alaimo was 14-7 overall for doubles, including a 13-6 clip with Armstrong in which they were 10-5 at No. 3, including a 5-3 mark in the NE-10. The duo captured the doubles championship at the Stonehill Invitational in October.

Stonehill concluded its season with a 15-5 overall record, 8-3 in the Northeast-10 to finish fourth in the Conference standings. The Skyhawks made their NE-10 record 13th NE-10 Tournament appearance and advanced to the semifinal round for the seventh straight year and eighth time overall.
