Ringstad Named NE-10 Rookie of the Year to Highlight Six All-Conference Honors for Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. (April 19, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) headlines six selections for All-Northeast-10 Conference honors by their performance in Conference competition during the 2011-12 season.

Ringstad is the second Stonehill freshman to be named Rookie of the Year in the Northeast-10, as voted on by the NE-10's 12 head coaches, joining Michael Mashkevich, '10, who earned the honors in 2006-07. Ringstad, who was also named to the NE-10's All-Rookie team by the league coaches,  leads the Skyhawks All-Conference honorees as he collects All-Northeast-10 honors at No. 1 singles, while he and doubles partner, sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) earned second team All-NE-10 honors at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) joins Ringstad on the All-Northeast-10 third team with his selection at No. 6 singles. Stonehill's top doubles tandem, senior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) and junior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien), earn third team All-Conference honors at No. 1 doubles.

Ringstad, who has earned NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors eight times this season to go with two Player of the Week selections, has posted a 34-13 combined record in singles and doubles play for Stonehill in his first collegiate season. He is 18-6 in singles, going 15-3 at No. 1 for the Skyhawks, including a 9-2 mark in NE-10 action. Ringstad has posted key NE-10 wins over 2010-11 NE-10 Player of the Year Mitch Dobek and regular season champion Merrimack's Chris Barnhart to highlight his singles wins on the year.

Ringstad and Hyzak have combined to post a 14-6 record this season, including a 7-2 clip in NE-10 play, going 10-4 at No. 2. The duo reached the semifinals of the B-doubles bracket at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional in September. Ringstad also advanced to the Round of 16 for the Championship singles bracket at the ITA East Regional.

Hyzak, who earned NE-10 All-Rookie team honors as a freshman, collects his first All-Conference honor with his selection at No. 2 doubles with Ringstad. Hyzak is a combined 60-31 in singles and doubles play over his two seasons at Stonehill. He is 32-14 for singles, including a 16-5 clip in Conference play, competing at No. 2 this season. He has also posted a 28-17 career doubles mark, going 16-6 in NE-10 matches.

Bergeron and Martin earn All-Northeast-10 honors as a doubles team for the third-straight year with their third team honors at the No. 1 flight. The duo collected third team recognition at No. 2 doubles last season and third team at No. 3 in 2009-10. They have combined to post an 8-7 overall record this season, including a 5-2 clip in NE-10 matches, going 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles spot in the Skyhawks lineup.

The team is 31-17 overall over the last three seasons together, including a 17-6 clip in NE-10 matches. Bergeron, who is also a two-time All-NE-10 singles performer, earned first team honors at No. 4 his junior season and first team at No. 6 as a sophomore. He has posted a 56-16 (.778) record in singles play over his career, including a 31-5 (.861) clip in NE-10 matches. He is also a combined 45-24 (.652) for doubles, including a 26-9 (.743) mark in NE-10 matches. Martin was an NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman when he also collected third team All-Conference honors at No. 5 singles to go with his doubles honor with Bergeron. Martin is a combined 69-42 (.623) in singles and doubles play over his three seasons at Stonehill, posting a 37-19 combined doubles record, including a 19-7 career mark in NE-10 matches. He is also 32-23 over his career for singles, going 15-9 in NE-10 play.

Armstrong earns third team All-Northeast-10 honors at No. 6 singles for the second-straight year after also being named to the Conference's All-Rookie team. He has posted an 11-7 overall record during his sophomore season, including a 5-4 mark in NE-10 matches, while posting a 4-4 clip at No. 6 to go with a 5-2 mark at No. 5. Armstrong is 15-6 overall in doubles play, teaming up with freshman Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) for a 13-5 doubles record, including a 5-3 mark in NE-10 play, going 10-4 overall at No. 3. The team won the doubles championship at the Stonehill Invitational in October. Armstrong is 15-6 overall in doubles play this season.

Armstrong is a combined 46-22 (.677) in singles and doubles play over his two year career at Stonehill. He has gone 22-10 for singles, including a 13-5 clip in NE-10 matches, to go with a 24-12 doubles record, including 13-6 in Conference play.

Stonehill (15-4, 8-3 NE-10), ranked eighth in the most recent NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, is back in action on Thursday when it visits top-seeded Merrimack College in the semifinal round of the NE-10 Tournament at North Andover High School at 2 p.m.
