Ringstad Earns Seventh NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Fairbanks, Alaska, native posts 3-1 week as Skyhawks split two matches

EASTON, Mass. (April 9, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the seventh time by the league office this afternoon.

Ringstad, who has also been named the NE-10 Player of the Week twice, posted a combined 3-1 record in singles and doubles play in a 1-1 week for Stonehill. He won both matches at No. 1 singles, including a three-set slugfest with reigning NE-10 Player of the Year and regional No. 17 Mitch Dobek of Southern New Hampshire University, while teaming up with sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) to split a pair of doubles matches. Ringstad rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) triumph over Dobek in the Skyhawks 5-4 setback to Southern New Hampshire on Thursday and then topped Le Moyne's Daniel Sullivan, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to clinch the Skyhawks 5-4 win on Saturday. He and Hyzak also cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles against the Dolphins.

Ringstad has posted a 30-9 combined record in singles and doubles play for Stonehill in his first collegiate season. He is 16-4 in singles, going 13-2 at No. 1 singles for the Skyhawks, including a 7-1 mark in NE-10 action. Ringstad is a combined 14-5 four doubles, going 12-4 with Hyzak. The duo reached the semifinals of the B-doubles bracket at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional in September. Ringstad also advanced to the Round of 16 for the Championship singles bracket at the ITA East Regional.

Stonehill (12-3, 6-2 NE-10), ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings closes out the regular season with three matches this week. The Skyhawks visit Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., before hosting Adelphi University on Wednesday (2 p.m.) and Merrimack College on Friday (3 p.m.).
