Alaimo and Armstrong lead double-winners for Skyhawks
Sophomore Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and freshmen Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) and Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) were all double-winners to lead the way for Stonehill. Alaimo and Armstrong combined for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles as the Skyhawks took two of the three doubles matches in their way to victory. Alaimo also rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win at No. 4 singles over Monmouth senior Chris Utterback (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), while Armstrong swept past freshman Andrew Shiakallis (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5.
Ringstad won his match at No. 1 singles when his opponent retired after he won the first set, 6-0. Ringstad also combined with sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) for an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Jared Drzal (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) also picked up a win for the Skyhawks at No. 6 singles over Monmouth sophomore Alex King (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomores David Johnson (St. Charles, Ill./North) and David Stewart (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) picked up singles wins for Monmouth after combining for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Stonehill (7-1, 3-0 NE-10) closes out its spring break trip tomorrow against Otterbein University at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando at 3:30 p.m.
