EASTON, Mass. (March 6, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's tennis for the fifth time this season by the league office.

Ringstad, who has also been named the NE-10 Player of the Week once, led Stonehill to an 8-1 win over Salve Regina University in its spring opener on Saturday. He posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles over Salve Regina's Zach Rosenfeld after teaming up with sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) for an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles. It marks the sixth week a Skyhawks freshman has earned the award during the 2011-12 season, with classmate Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) collecting the honors during the fall season.

Ringstad has posted a 16-3 combined record in singles and doubles play for Stonehill to open his collegiate career. He is 8-2 in singles play, going 5-0 at No. 1 singles for the Skyhawks, including a 3-0 mark in NE-10 play. Ringstad and Hyzak are 8-1 in doubles action, reaching the semifinals of the B-doubles bracket at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional in September and also posting a 5-0 mark at No. 2 doubles, including a 3-0 mark in NE-10 matches. Ringstad also advanced to the Round of 16 for the Championship singles bracket at the ITA East Regional.

Stonehill (5-0, 3-0 NE-10), ranked tenth in the ITA East Regional rankings, heads to Florida this weekend for its annual spring break trip, where it will play five matches starting with Sunday's clash with Wayne State (Mich.) University at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee at 6 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is a non-conference matchup with Post University on Wednesday, March 21, at 4 p.m.
