Ringstad Named NE-10 Player and Rookie of the Week

Fairbanks, Alaska, freshman earns third-straight Rookie honor, first Player of the Week selection

EASTON, Mass. (October 4, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) has earned both Northeast-10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week honors from the league office today.

Ringstad earns Player of the Week honors for the first time, but it marks the third straight week he has collected Rookie of the Week accolades from the NE-10. He led Stonehill to a pair of Conference wins over the weekend by posting a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play. Ringstad won both matches at No. 1 singles, claiming a back and forth 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 victory over Saint Michael's College sophomore Nick Bosco on Saturday and then added a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Pace University sophomore Mike Metesen on Sunday.

Ringstad was a double-winner in both 9-0 wins for Stonehill, teaming up with sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) at No. 2 doubles to post an 8-2 victory at Saint Michael's and then an 8-4 win at Pace.

Ringstad is a combined 10-2 in singles and doubles play early in his collegiate career. He is 4-1 for singles after Sunday's match, having reached the round of 16 in the A-championship bracket of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional in September. Ringstad and Hyzak are 6-1 as a doubles tandem after Sunday's win, having advanced to the B-doubles semifinals at the ITA East Regional last month.

Ringstad came to Stonehill following a standout four year career at Monroe Catholic High School in Alaska. He won two-straight Alaska Region IV singles championships and placed third at the Alaska State Championship all four years for the Rams. He also won the singles and doubles championships at the 2011 Yakima (Wash.) Valley Junior Championships this past summer.

Stonehill (3-0, 3-0 NE-10), ranked tenth in the ITA East Regional rankings, is back in action this weekend when it hosts the Stonehill College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Charles Watt Tennis Courts.
