Ringstad Earns NE-10 Rookie of the Week Honors

Fairbanks, Alaska, native has impressive opening to collegiate career

EASTON, Mass. (September 21, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week by the league office.

Ringstad's first weekly honor caps an impressive opening to his collegiate career at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional, hosted by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, in Philadelphia, Pa., this weekend. He reached the round of 16 for the A singles championship bracket and also combined with sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) to advance to the B doubles semifinals, posting a combined record of 4-2 for the weekend.

Ringstad received a first round bye in the A singles bracket before topping Bentley University senior Zack Tuckman, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, in his first collegiate match. He then fell to Queens (N.Y.) College senior Claudio Andrade, 6-1, 6-1, in the round of 16. Ringstad and Hyzak combined to post a 3-1 record in doubles play, opening with an 8-5 first round victory over Merrimack College's Sean Pahler and Vince Bellino. The Skyhawks duo then followed with an 8-2 win over Chestnut Hill College's Michael Pecoraro in the round of 16 and an 8-6 triumph over Bentley's Rodrigo Ribeiro and Victor Suski in the quarterfinals before being topped by Concordia (N.Y.) College's Ricardo Frey and Mark Mozer in the semis, 8-1.

Stonehill (0-0, 0-0 NE-10), ranked tenth in the ITA East Regional rankings, opens its dual match schedule on Thursday when it hosts Salve Regina University for a non-conference clash at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
