Fayed Named NE-10 Player of the Week

Glastonbury, Conn., native honored after undefeated week

EASTON, Mass. (March 23, 2011) – Stonehill College senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Player of the Week for men's tennis by the Conference office.

Fayed earns Player of the Week honors for the third time in his senior season (11th career) after posting a combined 6-0 record in singles and doubles play over three matches for Stonehill last week. He was 3-0 for the Skyhawks at No. 1 singles while combining with sophomore Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) to win all three matches at first doubles.

Fayed, ranked 13th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, led Stonehill to a 5-4 win over Saint Ambrose College as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles after he and Martin coasted to an 8-1 victory at first doubles. He battled back for an 0-6, 6-2, 6-2 singles win against Christian Nikou from the University of Indianapolis after he and Martin won 8-3 in doubles. Fayed also held off Luiz Carvalho from Tiffin, 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 6-2 for a singles win.

Fayed, the 2009 NE-10 Player of the Year, is 11-3 in singles play for Stonehill this season, including a 7-2 clip in dual match play at No. 1 singles. He captured the A-flight singles title at the Stonehill Invitational in October and has posted a combined 6-4 doubles mark, including a 3-1 clip with Martin as his playing partner at first doubles.

Fayed, a three-time All-Northeast-10 performer in singles play, has posted a career singles record of 58-13, including a 26-4 clip in Conference play. He is also a three-time All-NE-10 doubles performer, compiling a 56-20 doubles mark, featuring a 25-4 record against NE-10 competition.

Stonehill (5-4, 1-1 NE-10), ranked ninth in the most recent ITA East Regional rankings released March 9, is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Saint Michael's College for a Northeast-10 clash at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. Backup indoor facility for the will be the Easton Country Club in the event of inclement weather.
