Fayed wins first singles flight championship to lead Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. (October 6, 2010) – Stonehill College placed second out of eight teams that competed in this weekend's Stonehill College Invitational held at Charles Watt Tennis Courts on Saturday and Sunday.

Merrimack College took the team title with 26 points, having finalists in all five rounds of competition for the weekend and coming away with three titles. Host Stonehill was second with 16 points, edging third-place Wheaton College (15 points). Roger Williams University (10) and Curry College (6) rounded out the top five.

Stonehill senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) won the first flight singles title with a 6-1, 6-7, 10-4 victory over Merrimack junior Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain). Freshman Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) reached the No. 4 singles final before being topped by Merrimack junior Sean Pahler (Rumson, N.J./Fair Haven), 6-3, 6-4.

Merrimack junior Rishi Rajpal (New Delhi, India) won at second singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Wheaton senior Brian Krantz (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran). The Warriors third title was won by sophomore Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia), 6-1, 6-1, over Salve Regina University sophomore Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn./Tolland).

Wheaton senior Harry Altman (Riverdale, N.Y./The Dwight School) and freshman Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) won the doubles title with an 8-4 victory over junior Liam Hoare (West Newbury, Mass./Saddlebrook Academy) and freshman Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) of Merrimack.

Stonehill (4-1, 1-1 NE-10) will return to action for the spring portion of its schedule to be announced at a later date.
