Stonehill Rolls Past Franklin Pierce, 9-0

Fayed leads five double-winners for Skyhawks in NE-10 opener

EASTON, Mass. (September 21, 2010) – Stonehill College opened its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a commanding 9-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University in men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts tonight.

Senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), the 2009 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, led the double-winners for Stonehill by notching wins and No. 1 singles and doubles. Juniors Jonathan Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) and Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) and freshmen Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and Conor Fallon (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) also notched a pair of wins for the Skyhawks.

Fayed posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Franklin Pierce junior Benjamin Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) at first singles after combining with Hyzak for an 8-1 triumph at first doubles. Hyzak also notched a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at third singles. Burke picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles after teaming up with Fallon for an 8-1 victory at third doubles, while Fallon also notched a 6-2, 6-0 win at fifth singles. Bergeron rounded out the double winners for the Skyhawks by picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles after teaming up with sophomore Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) for an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles.

Stonehill (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) returns to action on Sunday when it visits Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home to host Salve Regina University on Saturday, October 2, as part of Alumni Weekend at the College at noon. Franklin Pierce (0-2, 0-2 NE-10) hosts Assumption College on Saturday, October 9, at 11 a.m.
