Skyhawks Sweep SNHU in Home Debut

Easton, Mass. -  The Stonehill Men's Tennis team improved to 6-3 (2-0 Northeast-10 Conference) with a 9-0 win over the Southern New Hampshire Penmen (2-5, 2-5 Northeast-10) Tuesday evening.  Junior Jason Allegretti (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) led the way for the Skyhawks, defeating SNHU's Mike Ricciardi on his way to a 7-1 personal mark.  Allegretti's lone loss came on March 6th, to Alvaro Ochoa of West Virginia Wesleyan.  

Freshman Jon Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) and senior John McGaffigan (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) were both victorious at fifth and sixth singles, respectfully.  Both teammates won in straight sets.

William Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug) and Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) made quick work of their singles opponents as well.  Herchel won fourth singles 6-0, 6-2 to improve to 6-3 overall.  Fayed, a freshman, improved to 4-2 in the second singles spot, winning 6-1, 6-2.  Fayed is 6-2 overall.

Michael Mashkevich (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) went down to the wire with Southern N.H.'s David Spaggiari in first single's competition.  After falling behind 5-7, Mashkevich rallied for the tie-breaker win.  He stands at 3-4 this season.

Doubles events went equally as well for the Skyhawks.  A 3-0 sweep was headlined by Burke and senior captain Michael Allen's (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) 8-0 victory over Jon Bauker and Shane Cochran.  

Tonight's contest marked the first of four straight home matches for the men.  They will host Franklin Pierce on Thursday.  The event is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
