ITA East Regional Final 2008 Rankings

Skillman, N.J. - The Stonehill College Men's Tennis team landed fifth in the final East Regional rankings decided by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday.  The honor marks the highest postseason ranking the program has ever received in its 56-year history. Led by head coach Peter Miller, the Skyhawks finished with an 18-7 overall mark, a new single season high for the Purple and White.

Stonehill finished with an 18-7 overall record, 9-1 against Northeast-10 opponents.  Their only regular season Conference loss came against Bryant University, 6-3, on April 12th.  The second-seeded Skyhawks defeated Southern N.H. and Merrimack College in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, but fell to top-seeded Bryant in the finals.

The Skyhawks entered the NCAA Tournament with a No. 4 seed in the East, the program's highest rank ever.  Two doubles victories and win at No. 2 singles from freshman Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) were not enough as Stonehill fell to Queens College, 5-3, in the opening round.

Two of Stonehill's three First Team All-Northeast-10 Conference selections will return for the 2008-2009 season.  Among them is Jason Allegretti (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln), who finished with a team-best 16-5 singles record, 8-1 against Northeast-10 opponents.
