Mashkevich Nails Down Bentley Sweep

Easton, Mass. - The Stonehill College Men's Tennis team
(14-5, 7-1 Northeast-10 Conference) claimed their second straight
Conference victory with a 9-0 defeat over rival Bentley College
(6-9, 6-3 Northeast-10 Conference). The 9-0 win marks the
sixth time the Skyhawks took all nine contests on their way to a
win. The victory improves the men to 7-1 in the Conference
standings, and one step closer to a top seed in the Championship
tournament.
Freshman Tim Fayed (Glastonbury,
Conn./Glastonbury) and junior William Herchel
(Hampden, Mass./Hampden) each claimed their 13th individual win in
Tuesday's match. With a 6-2, 7-5 win over Brian Barnett at
third singles, Herchel improved his team-best Conference record to
7-1. Fayed's 6-0, 6-1 win over Bentley's Michael Dolan at second
singles gives the rookie stand-out a team-best individual record,
13-4 overall.
Freshman Jon Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South
Kingstown) preserved the Stonehill sweep with a 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 win
over Bentley's Chris Schoder. The win improves the rookie to
11-4 overall, 5-0 Northeast-10 Conference.
Michael Mashkevich (Framingham, Mass./Framingham)
anchored the top of Stonehill's lineup once again with straight set
victories at both first singles and first doubles. The
sophomore teamed with Fayed to hand Bentley's Michael Dolan and
Stephen Sparks an 8-0 loss. Mashkevich went on to win at
first singles 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) over Miles Holman to take Stonehill's
ninth and final victory.
The men return to action Thursday against Merrimack College.
The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in North Andover, Mass.
