Skyhawks Dominant in 6-3 Win
Springfield, Mass. - The Stonehill College Men's Tennis team (12-4, 5-0 Northeast-10 Conference) captured a 6-3 victory over American International College (3-6, 2-5 Northeast-10 Conference) Thursday evening. The win is the Men's second straight and eighth victory in the last nine contests.
Freshman Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) won his third match at first singles, 6-3, 6-0 over AIC's Peter Almlof. Teammate Jason Allegretti (Lincoln, R.I/Lincoln) was victorious, as well, with a second singles win over Max Collins, 6-2, 6-0. Fayed and Allegretti share a team-best 12-3 record, 5-0 in the NE-10.
William Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug) snapped a two-match losing streak with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Robert Lubold. Herchel is 11-5 overall, 5-0 in the NE-10.
Seniors Mike Allen (Norwell, Mass./Norwell), John McGaffigan (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and freshman Jon Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) won in straight sets as the Skyhawks swept singles competition.
The Stonehill Men are a combined 24-0 in Conference singles competition. The Yellow Jackets' three doubles victories in Thursday's match came by default.
The win sets up a match up between two teams with perfect conference records. The Skyhawks will host the Bryant University Bulldogs (14-3, 8-0 NE-10) on Saturday with the Conference's top-spot up for grabs. The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on the Stonehill Courts.
