SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- Seniors Greg Maloomian (Needham, Mass.) and Greg Avola (Framingham, Mass.) posted straight set wins in singles play and combined for an 8-6 triumph at number one doubles to lift third-seeded Bentley to a berth into the title match of the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Championships with a 5-3 semi-final round victory over second-seeded Stonehill Saturday afternoon at Bryant University's Tennis Complex.

The Falcons, now 12-9 overall, will take on top-seeded Assumption (14-0) for the league crown Sunday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m., as the Greyhounds dispatched of fourth-seeded Bryant by a 5-1 final in Saturday's other semi-final contest.

The Skyhawks, who fall to 15-5 overall, grabbed a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, as senior Matt Grabala (Bristol, Conn.) and freshman Mike Mashkevich (Framingham, Mass.) posted an 8-1 win at the number two spot, while freshman Mike Leone (Cataumet, Mass.) and senior Andy DeVita (Milford, Mass.) notched an 8-2 triumph at the number three position. Bentley rallied to take four of the five matches that were finished in singles play, as Maloomian and sophomore Miles Holman (East Longmeadow, Mass.) used a pair of tie-breakers in their victories to join Avola and sophomore Mike Dolan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in closing out the Falcon scoring with singles victories. Sophomore Dustin Marshall (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) collected the other Stonehill point of the afternoon with a straight-set win at number six singles.

The Skyhawks will await word of a possible at-large selection into the field of 64 in the 2007 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships, as pairings will be announced for this year's championship on Tuesday afternoon.

Mashkevich was named earlier today as the 2007 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year after posting a combined 27-10 mark in both singles and doubles play to date this spring. Sophomore Will Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) earned first-team all-conference honors at number five singles, while Grabala, Mashkevich and Marshall all earned second-team all-Northeast-10 accolades in singles play at the numbers one, two and six spots, respectively. Leone earned all-conference honors at number four singles and teamed with DeVita to earn first team all-league accolades at number three doubles, while Grabala and Mashkevich also earned all-conference honors in doubles play at the number two spot.
